An ancient past shrouded in mystery and legend.
A people different than all of the creator’s children.

A young man in search of his destiny.

The Master Healer invites Aeden Rossam, a young nobleman, to join the Society of Healers and undertake a quest to liberate his enslaved city. With the enemy on their tail, the old man reveals that all of humanity are Rohvim--beings of metal, flesh, and fantastic powers, and that only by mastering his rohva nature will Aeden confront the warlord and put an end to the senseless devastation.

And along the way, they will unlock the secrets of Earth’s ancient past…

The Rohvim Book 1 Metal and Flesh eBook Endi Webb

This writer has an interesting concept...sword and sorcery Terminators---with a mix-in of Ironman and Wolverine.

Truth be told, I am still sorting out my thoughts on this book while reading at the next book in the series. The overriding theme is a Jungian Hero's Journey for the son of a minor court official in the maelstrom of unrest overtaking his world...a series of more or less interlocking fiefdoms, some ruled benevolently, some not so much. As in this genre, a malignant SOMETHING has launched a beginning round and the shock troops, golem-like, have won.

There are healing wizards who are not warriors...yah, you guessed it, our young friend is both healer and warrior--so we have two of the four Jungian archetypes...Warrior and Shaman...at play. And there is a young lady warrior...so we have the Lover archetype hovering on the horizon.

So, you ask is this book really worth 4 stars? YEP. The writing is good, the story arc is nicely played out, the characters are well-defined and being nicely developed...for DATA types they got the emotion chips in nicely...and we forget that underneath the flesh is machinate--until someone gets cleaved and the metallic indoskeleton is reveled. I can not find fault with the craftsmanship.

I will not downgrade a book/series/author simply because I am not gronking with the storyline or grooving with the genetic/forging of the denizens of the world created. It took a while for most folks to really tune into Middle Earth, Foundation, the Na'vi...you get my drift.

Should you get the book and read it? Answer these three questions in order and in the affirmative--- Do you like genre-bending? Do you like to see new takes on what might be called old recipes? Are you good at immersion reading (putting everything on hold and just getting into the book)? If you just gave me three YES answers--get it and probably the sequels. If you gave two YES and one NO, get it and after reading it, consider the sequels. Anything else...got back to your romance novels where nobody dies and people flutter around and bosoms heave a lot and get sweaty or glow or whatever.

There ya be..

The Rohvim Book 1 Metal and Flesh eBook Endi Webb Reviews

This book deserves more recognition, just 7 reviews (at the time of this writing), seriously? Much worse self-published pieces have thousands of reviews, how come?

Anyway, it is rather unusual post-civilization (maybe, sort of - I hope that'll be explained in the second volume) story, in which humans actually do have a clear and evident difference from the rest of the biosphere. Which obviously raises some interesting questions, that some of them are trying to answer.

Eagerly starting reading the second book.
This was the first book for this author. It was a great start and was an interesting premise… robot human hybrids that knew they were human with a skeleton made of metal. They understood that they were different than other animals populating their planet, but did not understand how they came to be and thus created a religion to help them answer that question. Since they were mechanical in nature, certain individuals found ways of controlling the basic operating system in others and became a group of healers who could stabilize systems and help people become well. They also had other powers and found ways of creating and directing energy (a la the Emperor in Star Wars). Of course it part of a series so I can't even begin to tell where it ultimately will go, but it was a nice read and portended good things to come from this author.
The book was good enough, but not among his best. 4 stars minus.
Metal and Flesh is a classic story of good vs. evil, freedom vs. captivity, have not's vs. the haves, etc. It is cleverly written and entertaining. Lot's of sword fighting, imaginative scenes, with a little bit of romance mixed in. It is both futuristic with a hat tip to the past. This book promises to be the start to a great new series!
A great book for pre-teens on up. It was an awesome mixture of technology and medieval times. I liked the way the people/robots were made by humans just like themselves, but after the human race vanished the human-robots created their own civilization that starts medieval-style. I am an 11-year-old boy and I would recommend this book.
I really enjoyed reading Metal and Flesh. The creativity and newness of the story were very refreshing and engaging. The author (or authors? not really sure how to characterize it?) provide a surprising approach to technology that leads to a very unique adventure.
This book is very light and very quick, but at the same time conveys a depth that is engaging. I read it in almost one setting and literally missed my flight as a result of poor time management on my part.

I look forward to reading the rest of the series and other books by this new author.
Reading this was like a car with injector problems (carburetor problems for us older folks); sometimes it would run smoothly, but sometimes it would idle rough and stall. When it got to the Harry Potter want-to-be section I had to put it down. This part came out of nowhere and appeared to be kind of out-of-place in the continuity of the story-line and unfolding plot.

The book had a very interesting, and unique, fantasy and science fiction concept, but I do not think I will finish this book. (

On the positive side, this book could easily become an anime screenplay and the characters popular at a future anime-con!!!
